The Black Keys - The Big Come Up
Working from home means I can skip the mp3’s and earbuds and hit up my records. This is a shot of my newly acquired Black Keys - my first clear wax.
Damn, is this cool.
Now that I’m a budding vinyl collector, I’ve learned that I “save” my virgin spins for the right moment. I don’t really practice this behavior in any other aspect of my life, but with records I do.
I finally opened my Arches record this morning. I was a contributor to their Kickstarter project to get Wide Awake pressed on vinyl. For doing so, my name was mentioned in the credits. Do you see it? Third on the list!! I didn’t realize that flamgilrant would be the name used, but I’m tickeled! There are a lot of Amy K.’s in the world but how many flamgirlants do you know??
It’s hard to tell from the last photo but the record itself is a very pretty marbled vinyl in shades of purple. Very lovely. And my, does it sound fantastic. I’m so happy I was able to be a part of getting Wide Awake on vinyl. Well done guys, it really is something special.
The Archive
Absolutely fantastic (and bittersweet) mini-doc about the ultimate vinyl collector - nay, archiver.
Paul Mawhinney was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Over the years he has amassed what has become the world’s largest record collection. Due to health issues and a struggling record industry Paul is being forced to sell his collection.
This is the story of a man and his records. I hope you enjoy it.
