The Black Keys - The Big Come Up
Working from home means I can skip the mp3’s and earbuds and hit up my records. This is a shot of my newly acquired Black Keys - my first clear wax.
Damn, is this cool.
Now that I’m a budding vinyl collector, I’ve learned that I “save” my virgin spins for the right moment. I don’t really practice this behavior in any other aspect of my life, but with records I do.
I finally opened my Arches record this morning. I was a contributor to their Kickstarter project to get Wide Awake pressed on vinyl. For doing so, my name was mentioned in the credits. Do you see it? Third on the list!! I didn’t realize that flamgilrant would be the name used, but I’m tickeled! There are a lot of Amy K.’s in the world but how many flamgirlants do you know??
It’s hard to tell from the last photo but the record itself is a very pretty marbled vinyl in shades of purple. Very lovely. And my, does it sound fantastic. I’m so happy I was able to be a part of getting Wide Awake on vinyl. Well done guys, it really is something special.
The Archive
Absolutely fantastic (and bittersweet) mini-doc about the ultimate vinyl collector - nay, archiver.
Paul Mawhinney was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Over the years he has amassed what has become the world’s largest record collection. Due to health issues and a struggling record industry Paul is being forced to sell his collection.
This is the story of a man and his records. I hope you enjoy it.
Record Roof
Nashville musician Matt Glassmeyer came up with this unique solution for shingling his porch roof. Glassmeyer, using nails and washers, attached 350 vinyl records to the roof, and after two years in the Nashville sun, apparently, they still haven’t warped.
Bad. Ass.
Recycled Vinyl Record - Male Huia Bird by RecordBreaker
I love recycled vinyl art.
How fantastic are these records?? Dwellephant is selling handpainted vinyl records that have been rendered unplayable due to scratches and other abuses. What a great way to upcycle! At $30 a crack (including shipping) it’s not a bad way to spruce up the wall in your rec room.
No etsy store that I can find yet, so be sure to visit Dwellephant’s site, check out the others available and send an email with any purchase interest!
