It’s that time of year where we make lists! Nice lists, naughty lists (quite fond of those) and my favorite, “Best of” lists. It’s fun to take a step back and really evaluate all of my loves over the past year and let me tell you, I really got around! Some albums were mere crushes or flirtations, others I fell for hard and fast but then cooled and still others where the love started as a spark and grew to a great roaring fire.
After much soul searching and extreme self-imposed stress, I believe I came up with my Best of 2011. 10 favorite albums, 5 favorite EPs. As is my tradition, I created a mixtape for you all to download and enjoy. 2 tracks off of my favorite albums and a single track off of my favorite EPs. The new Shivers album dropped today on Silence Breaks records.
I’m nearly through my first listen - it’s as spectacular as I had hoped. Vinyl was just purchased.
I don’t think anything else will exist for me today. I’m immersing myself in this album, don’t expect me to come up for air until tomorrow.

I turned 33 on February 24th and I thought what better way to celebrate than making a birthday mixtape to share with all of you! One featuring a snapshot from my 1st birthday as cover art, nonetheless. ;)
This mix is filled with jams - slow jams, dancey jams, raucous jams and maybe even a surprise or two. These are the sort of tunes I like to listen to while rallying for a night out. The Shivers - “African Passport”
Today was a day. The kind of the day that requires the comfort of french toast for dinner and The Shivers. The melody just sort of envelopes you with its gentle sway. They understand. They’re sharing their story; they’re commiserating. And then that organ pops up, offering this hopeful bit of color. It won’t always be this dour, it will get better. And by the end, it is. It’s like you just talked to your BFF, the one that really gets you, and they helped shoulder that weight through a really tough spot.
Yeah. The Shivers are always there for me.
