Cousins - “Secret Weapon”
Oh how I love this band. This track is from The Palm at the End of the Mind. An album that will likely end up near the top of my 2012 year end list.
Patrick Watson - “Step Out for a While”
Well hello there, Patrick Watson… I believe I have a slight crush on you.
Mr. Gnome - “Ate The Sun” (Halfway House Sessions)
Feels like a new band crush. See more over at Halfway House Music.
The Coathangers - “Well Alright”
Damn. This song. Full of growls, tinkling pianos, foot-stomping sing-a-long chorus… a tantrum that’s charming because of the short-lived, pouty fit and apathetic relinquishment.
Love these broads.
3 1/2 - “Green Leaf”
Can’t get enough of this three-piece LA band. I’ve always had a soft spot for bands with a chip on their collective shoulder. This is the kind of music I love to listen to in the spring. I welcome March like a lion! I’ll be a riot grrrl to the very end.
Head over to bandcamp to download or stream their 2011 EP First Recordings. This fits squarely in my wheelhouse and I’m pretty sure it’ll work for many of you.
Previously “Hipside”
Samantha Crain - “The Last Stanchion Goes Belly Up”
And this marks the beginning of my crush on Samantha Crain…
You guys know I like Samantha Crain in general. Ok. But did you know I LOVE her in a freight elevator?
I do.
Well done, Be Nice To Your Kids.
Peggy Sue - “Cut My Teeth”
A live version of ‘Cut My Teeth’ recorded in London late in 2011.
F Hood - “Dream Crush”
Time to rub the sleep from your eyes and start off the work week with some lovely lo-fi guitar and synths. Head over to bandcamp to hear more off of Gloomy Labyrinth by F Hood.
Many thanks time and time again to the incomparable Weird Canada for another amazing find. One of my absolute favorite music blogs.
Outer Minds - “Conversation”
The 60’s psych fuzz of Chicago’s Outer Minds has hooked me. Those harmonies!!
Think I’m gonna have to pre-order their s/t LP debut out 3/5 on Southpaw. And if I’m gonna do that, I might as well pick up a few more 7“‘s and 12“‘s I’ve had my eye on.
Seriously, can Southpaw Records scratch my garage itch any more thoroughly??
